Here is a checklist for people before they leave on a vacation.
Going on Vacation Tips:
- Secure the House
- Lock all doors and windows
- Secure garage and basement entries
- Set timers on interior lights
- Inform a trusted neighbor or friend
- Activate security systems (if applicable)
- Manage Mail & Deliveries
- Hold mail via USPS or arrange pickup
- Pause or reschedule regular deliveries
- Notify newspaper or package services
- Adjust Utilities & Appliances
- Set thermostat to energy-saving mode
- Unplug non-essential electronics
- Program smart home settings (if available)
- Emergency Prevention
- Turn off main water
- Check smoke detectors and alarm system
- Leave emergency contact info with a neighbor/family
- Clean & Tidy
- Empty trash cans
- Remove perishable items from the fridge
- Run dishwasher
- Do laundry
- Water plants (or arrange for someone to)
- Pay Bills
